Ontario Bar
About This Spot
Stepping into Ontario Bar on Grand Street feels like slipping into a tucked-away haven where Brooklyn’s eclectic rhythms slow into a comfortable, lived-in hum. The dim lighting casts a familiar glow across a tightly-knit space that almost invites you to lean in closer — to the bartenders mixing up thoughtful drinks, to the familiar thwack of an air hockey puck, to conversations that ebb and flow with ease. It’s a bar that wears its identity lightly, not shouting but quietly welcoming a diverse crowd bound by easygoingness and a shared appreciation for unpretentious company.
There’s a warm, unvarnished honesty here that comes alive through its Canadian-themed touches and the nods to dive bar tradition—a place where discounted Canadian beers and whiskey hint at nostalgic comfort without overwhelming the senses. The pace is unhurried, a refuge for those looking to unwind among regulars who have found a second home and newcomers eager to dive into the mix. It’s a setting where you might catch an impromptu game of pool or challenge a friend to air hockey, making the night feel playfully familiar and refreshingly sincere.
The bartenders gesture with genuine care, undistracted by pretense, crafting more than just drinks — they’re curators of the vibe, attentive to moments as much as to orders. This is a spot where character is found in the small details: the well-worn bar stools, the hum of quiet laughter, the unspoken understanding that everyone here belongs in one way or another.
Ontario Bar isn’t about flashy accents or the newest trends but about creating an atmosphere where stories unfold naturally—whether you’re reliving a slice of home, finding your tribe among industry locals, or simply savoring the quiet joy of a simple night out in Brooklyn.

It’s exactly what you expect it to be - a Canadian themed bar with discount Canadian beer and whiskey. They have pool, they have Canadian decorations, and the prices are great. For anyone who is Canadian living in New York this pizza is a slice of nostalgia - with extra pineapple!

The legend lives on. This is a dive bar. Its not Canadian they dont have t.vs and it is populated with all the best people. If you wear lulumon leggings, keep that on the Northside. This is an industry bar.

Bartender was super nice. Was there from 8-10:30 and even though he was the only one was super attentive and didn't leave me hanging when regulars came in.

Went here so I could absolutely dominate my friend in air hockey (featured below). Atmosphere was dim, bar was comfortably cramped, it was everything I wanted and more!!! *Pro-tip you have to thump the end of the table to get the puck to present itself

Best dive bar in Williamsburg! Lovely staff, real pros. If you're good people, they'll know. Generally a young, mostly unpretentious crowd, but there are a few staunch mature regulars. Pretty much a beer and shot locale, but the bartenders are quite capable of making mixed drinks and cocktails if you ask nicely. ???????? Update re: post covid mandate. Suns out, guns and buns out! Always a good time! Get their early to rock the pool table and knock hockey in the back. Always tip generously. They give preference to regulars who tip well, so you'd do well to do the same. 10% is lame, 15% is barely passing, 18% to 22% is sweet, 25% to 30% is what I usually tip because I love them, and I never wait. See how that works? Do this for food delivery guys, too. Food is allowed at Ontario, just pick up after yourselves. And don't whistle or holler at the staff. Try a smile with eye contact, or even introduce yourself like a mature human being: there's no need to flash your card or money.
